'Shogi' has many defense formation called "Kakoi" in Japanese(Kakoi mean Surrounding).You shoud choose a formation by tactics of opponent and you.
Defense formation
  • "Gold tower"(Kin Yagura called in Japapese) 
    
Gold tower is very hard defense formation to frontal attack.

but,this is not hard to side attack.
  • "Boat surrounding"(Huna Gakoi called in Japapese) 
    
  Looks like boat. Boat surrounding is too weak to frontal attack.

To side attack,Boat surrouding is not so weak. The advantage of Boat 

surrounding is a cheap move cost.You can complete this by only 5 move.

And you can advance this to another defence formation.
  • "Mino surrounding"(Mino Gakoi called in Japapese) 
    
  Mino is old castle in Japanese.Mino surrounding is hard defense formation to side attack.

but,this is not hard by frontal attack.
  • "Badger"(Anaguma called in Japapese) 
    
  Your king looks like Badger. Badger is very hard defense formation to side attack.

but,this is not so hard by frontal attack.
