検事どうせならば、死ぬのを待てばよかったとも言えます。89歳ですから、死期はそう遠くないはずだ。しかし、彼女としては、気が変わる前に夫が死んでくれないと困るわけです。財産が目当てだとバレる前に死んでくれないと。ヘンリー・フラッドは、呼吸が苦しいのにローナの体をどかせられないほど、弱っていたわけではありません。頭も動かせた。息苦しい時、だれもがするように。押さえられていたということだ。無理矢理。3、4分のあいだ、彼女は彼の気道を押さえ込んだ。これは事故ではありません。殺人です。彼女は警察にウソをついた。まったくもう、果たしてありうるでしょうか？　たまたま、誰かの下敷きになって人が窒息死するなんて。そういう事故があったという話、聞いたことありますか？
You might say, "Why not wait for him to die?" The guy was eighty-nine. How far away could death be? Well, the problem is, she needed him to pass away before he changed his mind. Before he realized it was all about the money to her. Henry Flood was not so feeble that he couldn't have moved Lorna Flood slightly so he could take a breath. [He] could have turned his head. ジョンそうですね。でも、胸が凶器の窒息死なんて話も聞いたことないですよね？　故人の首や肩には、アザや傷があったでしょうか？　押さえ込むには、相当な力が要ります。それに、89歳の老人は、跡がつきやすい。大体ですね、ローナ・フラッドが、よりによって胸に噛み跡があると分かっている日を選んで、人を窒息死させたりするでしょうか？　あまりに浅はかだと思いません？　普通、待つでしょう、噛まれた跡がちゃんと治るまで。彼女が警察にウソをついたのは、不倫しているのが分かって、疑いの目で見られるのが怖かったからです。
